Blasthaus Presents
ELECTROPOP feat. WALE
Support from TRACKADEMICKS and Nick Catchdubs!
blasthaus proudly presents Electropop, the first annual electronic music stage at the 2008 Noise Pop Festival. This dynamic new chapter in the festival continues the long-standing Noise Pop tradition of bringing cutting edge, independent music to San Francisco, this time with the focus on musicians and artists using electronic mediums. Electropop will run Friday, February 29th and Saturday March 1st, 2008, and feature two exhilarating nights of music and new media art manifested at Mighty, one of San Francisco's premier nightclubs and a beacon in the Bay Area electronic music scene.
Headlining Friday night at Electropop will be D.C. electro-rap phenomenon Wale (pronounced wah-ley). Breathing new life into an industry more focused on selling ring-tones than quality rap music, Wale has become a prominent young voice in hip-hop. The self-proclaimed "ambassador of rap for the capital" aims to put Washington, D.C., on the map. While D.C. isn't known as the capital of rap, it is known for go-go music, which thrived in the '70s and '80s thanks to its godfather, Chuck Brown. Wale has embraced this style of funk and incorporated it into hip-hop beats, using go-go's live instrumentation and energy to propel his lyrics. Last year saw the release of his already classic "100 Miles and Runnin" mix, which caught the attention of Mark Ronson (Amy Winehouse, Lilly Allen) and since then this protege was named one of Entertainment Weekly's 8 people to watch in 2008.
