LE VICE: Imagine fix wheeled bicycles chained to a yacht, dirty Chuck Taylor's and Dom Perignon, Hip Hop and R&B with an indie twist. They were recently coined one of the Bay's "Bands on the Rise in 2012" by the San Francisco Bay Guardian. Their LARGE sound includes throwback 80s synthesizers, Rick James bass lines, angular guitar licks, and 808 drums. This is topped off with front woman Alex Lee's rap swagger and soulful singing. The result is part throw back and part futuristic. LV's sound refuses to fit into any 1 genre, but instead seems to borrow from all genres, leaving them with a sound that literally has something for everyone who listens.
Le VICE's 2010 self-titled debut was a hit on college radio, getting rotation on over 80 stations nationwide. The album hit the top of many of these stations charts, often holding on to the #1 spot on the charts for weeks at a time. The week their record was released they also made the CMJ Top 20 charts for "Most Added" to radio stations. Others on the list that week included Best Album Grammy winners Arcade Fire and Best New Artist Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding. Esperanza was only one spot ahead of them. All of this college buzz got them a coveted showcase at that year's CMJ Festival in Brooklyn, NY.
DUCKWRTH: Recording Artist, Hails from South Central, Resides in SF. Planning on world domination.
RGLND: If Oakland lyricist RGLND (pronounced rag-land) could use one word to describe himself, it'd probably be "raunchy." Though young, the free-minded rapper has
some serious musical accomplishments under his belt, from gracing the stage in front of thousands at Hiero Day to performing with TDE's Ab-Soul, Kendrick Lamar,
and Schoolboy Q. Only 4 years in the game, it's obvious RGLND has made some major moves, but after seeing him perform, one get's a clear image this is only the beginning.
sayknowledge: Praised by hip-hop enthusiasts as a young rap prodigy mature beyond his years, sayknowledge has a penchant for matching "highbrow" lyricism, with street accessibility. He has a dizzyingly malleable flow, stretched wide by a broad range of multigenerational pop-culture references. Raised in San Francisco, he started making music at a young age, pushing the hyphy movement with his friends until they saw it slip away into commercialism. Eventually he struck out on his own, forging new sonic paths influenced not only by the Bay Area sound, but also classic R&B, soul, reggae, & funk music. He recently released his first full album entitled "Vibe Called Quest", which was produced Mars Today & Mikos (40Love). It spent several weeks as the #1 most played hip-hop record on the CMJ (college radio) charts. And eventually ended up being the #10 most played hip-hop album of 2013 on CMJ.
DJ Julicio: Julicio first came into contact with turntables while attending high school in Cupertino, California, where he learned the art of scratching and turntablism. When he moved back to Santiago, Chile in 1995, he began his career playing with Chilean Rock super group Los Morton. Promoters later caught wind of the young talent and booked him weekly at many reputable clubs throughout Santiago, and as an opening act for visiting bands including Snoop Dogg, Orishas, and Cypress Hill. After working with Los Morton, DJ Julicio started working with La Pozze Latina and with Jimmy Fernandez as well as many other local talents. He traveled all over Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Ecuador with Zaturno Espacial (Live Band Hip-Hop).
