Born in Clarksdale Miss, where the Blues was born, grew up listening to blues while other 7 year old's grew up listening to main stream music and artists. Melvin attributes his writing talents to a gift from God and riding in the back of his dad's Cadillac every summer, going to Clarksdale, Miss. from Flint, Michigan listening to blues greats. Melvin Riley has written billboard #1 and chart topping hits like "Oh Sheila, Love You Down, Tonight, Gently, Can He do it like this, Deep inside your love, Whose is it, My Girly, Ceramic Girl, Slide over and many other legendary songs.

Melvin has been credited for his innovative style of slow songs, influencing artist such as Usher, Chris Brown, Troop, Keith Sweat, Jodeci, Mint Condition, Alicia Keys, Twista, Trey Songs and a host of balladeers and rappers through the years after his Initial ascent into the global music industry, making him one of few artists to ever have 4 #1 hits on 4 different charts all at the same time. Melvin Riley is responsible for playing all instruments and singing all vocals on many of the chart topping songs for the group Ready For the world. His songs have been been remade by massive artists in the industry. Melvin was asked by the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame to honor his Oh Sheila Video Jacket by enshrining it in the Rock &Roll memorabilia showcase in Cleveland Ohio. Melvin was also honored with a lifetime achievement award recipient at the Southern Soul academy in Atlanta Ga, along with a plethora of music awards throughout his illustrious music career.
