DJ QUEST is a turntablist mastermind, co-creator of the first battle record, Hamster Breaks, and one of the founding members of Bullet Proof Scratch Hamsters/Space Travelerz), a pioneer group in the art of scratch music, Originator of the widely-adopted Hamster Style technique, and architect of jazz/hip hop trio LiveHuman--known for its improvisational use of the turntable as an instrument. Quest started DJing out of SF's Mission District over two decades ago and has been catering music for a range of listeners ever since. Influenced mainly by the sounds of old school and hip hop, his Latin roots were a fundamental source in allowing the expansions of rhythms he mixes. He continues to explore combinations of music from various eras and a spectrum of sonic flavors from world, jazz, Latin, dub and electronic played in a hip hop style. Quest currently shares his knowledge with Quest School of DJ Arts in collaboration with Horizons Unlimited/The DJ Project a non-profit community based-organization which offers arts entrepreneurship programs for San Francisco youth. He also continues working on his solo recording projects and has recently released Cosmic Parasite, a scratch album with a sci-fi touch. Adding to the list of releases Scratch Breaks2, his latest in the battle series, is available on vinyl.
