The San Francisco based DJ crew Sweater Funk is hosting the guys behind the legendary Mr. Peabody Record store and "The Real Sound Of Chicago" compilations at The Elbo Room Friday, June 29, 2012! For almost two decades Mark Grusane & Mike Cole have been a vast music resource for DJs, producers, collectors, rare music compilers, and specialty stores around the world. In 2004 Mark & Mike focused their energies into founding Mr.Peabody Records. The business plan and mission was to grow the shop to become a world class resource for all genres of obscure music. Since opening their doors, Mark & Mike's unique ear for music has found success in the loyal customer base that comes back for more funky music year after year. Soon, the UK based record label BBE, took notice and released the compilation "The Real Sound Of Chicago" in 2009, followed by "The Real Sound Of Chicago And Beyond" in 2011, both comps lovingly put together by Mark and Mike. As Dj's their style includes the rare and unreleased dance music from the 1970's and 1980's up through modern day club music spanning many genres. Give it a name? Well many have described these records as Disco, Boogie, Modern Soul, Funk, Jazz Fusion, House, New Wave, Garage, Mid-Tempo, Up-Tempo...etc. More importantly, Mark and Mike have developed a Mr. Peabody sound. It's something incredibly funky, different with enough hallmarks of recognizable sounds to pull you on the dancefloor and a perfect fit for the Sweater Funk sound!

Prentice Grant: From Vauxhall to Legacy — The Rise of an Independent Hip-Hop Force

The first time Prentice Grant realized music could change his life, he was just a kid in Vauxhall, New Jersey, staring at the TV.
