Event Description

Come shake your booty at Milk Bar on Wednesday, February 1st for Spilt Milk with a guest appearance from Breathe's Scott Brio. At Spilt Milk we play house, bass, club, techno, and whatever hot new shit we happen to get our hands on. As always, there is absolutely no coverfor this event.

Check out what sort of stuff we've been playing recently here: http://soundcloud.com/motherrecords/

Scott Brio (http://www.scottbrio.com/ )

For our February 1st Spilt Milk we’ve borrowed DJ and producer Scott Brio from his Monday night residency at the Milk Bar, where he gets his bass face on each week. Scott actually studied making music in a classroom, so prepare for him to slay the dancefloor with his book learning.

Hare & Hatter

Badmen Mountaincount (http://soundcloud.com/mountaincount ) and Nil (http://soundcloud.com/motherrecords/nil-midwinter-mix ) comprise the Carrollian duo Hare & Hatter. With their forces combined, these bass-loving DJs will house you up good.

Shaky Premise (http://soundcloud.com/shakypremise )

One half of DJ duo WACK RAPS, San Francisco’s Shaky Premise is lending his solo services to the spillage occurring Wednesdays at the Milk Bar. His sets are an eclectic mix of all things house, from disco to deep.

King’s Ransom (http://www.facebook.com/KingsRansomOfficial?sk=info)

The youngest of the Spilt Milk crew, East Bay resident King’s Ransom is a superlative producer and a near prodigy behind the decks. King’s Ransom is a flawless mixer, with a sharp eye for reading crowds, a knack for selecting the most bangingest of bangers, and the DJ chops to spin it all together into an ass-shaking affair.

Taylor Fife

Taylor first tried his hand at matching beats while a DJ on the Bay Area’s best and most storied radio station, KALX 90.7 FM, back in 2007. Armed with an encyclopedic knowledge of popular music, and an MP3 library to back it up, Taylor’s sets are well-informed, varied, and surprising. Taylor currently writes for the electronic music publication XLR8R in San Francisco.

p.s.

For 2012 we're ramping up to twice a month--1st and 3rd Wednesdays--so be on the lookout for lots more of these free events on the horizon. Next up on Feb. 15: Austin from Pixel Memory (http://soundcloud.com/pixel-memory/november-mix ).

Prentice Grant: From Vauxhall to Legacy — The Rise of an Independent Hip-Hop Force

The first time Prentice Grant realized music could change his life, he was just a kid in Vauxhall, New Jersey, staring at the TV. Two kids not much older than him were on the screen — backwards clothes, fearless energy, commanding the world. It was Kris Kross performing “Jump.”And in that moment, something clicked. It wasn’t just the beat.It wasn’t just the crowd. It was the power. From that day forward, Prentice didn’t just listen to hip-hop — he became it.He sharpened his pen studying legends.…See More
