MIGHTY presents JESSE & AARON of the Brazilian Girls

w/ Dylan McIntosh of BLVD

MIGHTY is proud to present an intimate night of music w/ Jesse Murphy & Aaron Johnston of Brazilian Girls. The night will feature DJ sets and LIVE instrumentation from Jesse & Aaron as well as Dylan McIntosh of BLVD. All Events at MIGHTY are 21+.

Imagine Grace Jones, Blondie, The Sugar Cubes, and Astrud Gilberto having a wild party and you are only half-way there.

Brazilian Girls' self-titled album has a very broad appeal and at the same time makes an important contribution to the art-pop-dance community. Fans of the band from that community include Bebel Gilberto, Me'shell Ndegeocello, Thievery Corporation, N'dea Davenport, Chocolate Genius, Citizen Cope, Mushroom from Massive Attack, DJ "Little" Louie Vega, Los Amigos Invisibles, and DJ Nickodemus (to name a few). A recent appearance on KCRW's hit program Morning Becomes Eclectic gained a huge fan in widely respected DJ and TV/film music supervisor Nic Harcourt. Hot UK DJ, Gilles Peterson has also spun Brazilian Girls putting them at #25 on his world chart.

But, seeing is definitely believing - and Brazilian Girls are a force to behold in live performance. They've been playing to packed clubs and have received stellar reviews in The New York Times, Time Out NY, Mojo and Flaunt magazines. Due in part to several small tours (one of which was with break-out band Ozomotli), the band has built a strong buzz on the East and West coasts in the US, Canada, and several countries in Europe (including the UK, France, Holland, Belgium, and Germany). The word is out...this band is HOT and sexy. Mysterious lead singer Sabina Scuibba is at the helm with erotic vocals sure to please.

BLVD's style has brought admiration from coast to coast with a sound that is equally at home in live music venues or dance clubs. 2008's full-length Music for People album earned the band respect from critics, with tracks being licensed by Victoria's Secret, AOL, Fuel, MTV and CBS television. The trio's live show is a fusion of electronic soundscapes and live instrumentation, featuring drummer/producer Dylan McIntosh, electric guitarist Curtis Sloane, and bass/synth player Tripp Bains. Unpredictable live performances include rock instrumentals and live/electronic arrangements drawing on influences from multiple genres. Not lending itself to typical classification, BLVD's sound is a unique representation of our current musical landscape.

Prentice Grant: From Vauxhall to Legacy — The Rise of an Independent Hip-Hop Force

The first time Prentice Grant realized music could change his life, he was just a kid in Vauxhall, New Jersey, staring at the TV. Two kids not much older than him were on the screen — backwards clothes, fearless energy, commanding the world. It was Kris Kross performing “Jump.”And in that moment, something clicked. It wasn’t just the beat.It wasn’t just the crowd. It was the power. From that day forward, Prentice didn’t just listen to hip-hop — he became it.He sharpened his pen studying legends.…See More
