Five-time Grammy nominee, John Santos & his Sextet in concert performing compositions by Miles Davis, Cachao, JohnColtrane, Bud Powell, Thelonius Monk, Chucho Valdés, and others. Jazz is a Caribbean art form born in the port of New Orleans and intimately connected for several centuries to Havana, San Juan and the rest of the Caribbean Basin. John Santos' groundbreaking work in illuminating the Caribbean roots of jazz is internationally recognized. He has also been involved in presentations at La Peña every year since our opening in 1975. 

 

The members of his Sextet are among the finest players, composers, arrangers and teachers in the Bay Area. They are one of the premiere groups in the field today, having recently appeared at the Monterey, San Francisco, Tumbleweed, San Jose, Sitka, and Healdsburg Jazz Festivals.
