Event Description

ON BLAZT! and THE SISTERZ OF THE UNDERGROUND PRESENT...

JAM ON IT! Is one of San Francisco's premier LIVE music events and is celebrating its 1 Year Anniversary. Incorporating musical styles like that of funk, jazz, hip-hop and soul, with live instrumentation and Hip Hop elements is the theme of this great night. Never a disappointment, JAM ON IT! delivers music that keeps your body moving and your head nodding and talented musicians that remind you why you fell in love with music in the first place.

DJ SOUL SISTER (WWOZ/NEW ORLEANS)
"All the way live since 1994, DJ Soul Sister specializes in rare groove, deep funk, classic old school funk, breaks, underground disco, true school hip hop, D.C. go-go and "real sounds with your behind in mind."
The host of the 15-year running (in July '09) Soul Power show on WWOZ 90.7FM in New Orleans (Saturdays 8-10pm CST - live at www.wwoz.org) and a live specialty dj artist who has taken the local nightlife by storm, Soul Sister was one of the first US radio DJs to highlight the rare groove format and is one of the few female DJs to spin and mix 100% funk (on 100% vinyl) and related original styles in her live performances.

DJ QUEST (SCRATCH HAMSTERS) w/SPECIAL GUESTS
Influenced by the hip-hop and electro styles of the early 80’s, DJ Quest has contributed to the DJ's art form by bringing a more aggressive scratch tactic to the battle scene. DJ Quest, featured in documentary SCRATCH, coined “Hamster Style,” a unique technique of reversing the set up of turntables into a mixer to facilitate new styles of scratching. Quest is one of the founding members of Bullet Proof Scratch Hamsters/Space Travelerz and a veteran of the DMC, New Music Seminar and countless other battles. DJ Quest has also expanded musical horizons by forming the San Francisco based experimental jazz-hip-hop trio, Livehuman. On the road, Quest has also accompanied Latyrx (Quannum Projects), The Bomb Hip-Hop DJ’s, Future Primitive Sound Session and Space Travelerz and Mike Patton’s Peeping Tom. Quest has also collaborated on recordings with: Dan “The Automator” (Handsome Boy Modeling School), Blackalicious, Rob Swift (Xecutioners), Z Man (One Block Radius), Sacred Hoop, Eddie K, Topper, DJ Zeph, DJ Q Bert (Do It Yourself vol. 2), Wide Hive collective Variable Unit and The DJ Project.

DJ CENTIPEDE (CHANGE THE BEAT) w/GUEST MC'S
Known in San Francisco as one of the most brilliant & tasteful trip-hop & breaks turntablist’s in the city. He will be spinning an extra special set cultivated especially for ‘Jam on It’ reserving the decks for only rare 45’s and accompanied by a special guest MC.

LA FEMME DEADLY VENOMS (Deeandroid, Cellskiii, Lady Fingaz and KAT 010)
Having recently placed 2nd in the DMC national team competition, this talented group of females consisting of 3 turntableists and an extremely talented producer and keyboard player, are a force to be reckoned with. Between the four of these talented ladies they have blessed some of the most prestigious stages across the world and played with an incredible roster of talented musicians from a variety of genres. Their special JAM ON IT! set is not to be missed.

LIVE PERFORMANCE FROM:

TOAST, a dynamic female rap-duo from San Francisco, is the hottest thing since sliced bread...literally. Comprised of Rachael VonCookie from Portland, OR and Erika B. of Los Angeles, these ladies have an untouchable, no-holds-bar attitude when it comes to both stage presence and lyrical content. One of the most entertaining new groups on the SF scene, they win audiences over by coupling their controversial and raunchy subject matter with head-banging Adam Curry would be jealous of.

HOSTED BY: ZMAN (One Block Radius/Gurp City)

Prentice Grant: From Vauxhall to Legacy — The Rise of an Independent Hip-Hop Force

The first time Prentice Grant realized music could change his life, he was just a kid in Vauxhall, New Jersey, staring at the TV. Two kids not much older than him were on the screen — backwards clothes, fearless energy, commanding the world. It was Kris Kross performing “Jump.”And in that moment, something clicked. It wasn’t just the beat.It wasn’t just the crowd. It was the power. From that day forward, Prentice didn’t just listen to hip-hop — he became it.He sharpened his pen studying legends.…See More
