In 2001, his True Skool events won the "Best of the Bay" in the SF Bay Guardian. Since True Skool's inception in 1999, his online magazine and newsletter has served as an information resource that covers hip hop history, politics, and events. As a DJ, he has spun alongside pioneers such as Mixmaster Mike, Grandmaster Flash, Jazzy Jeff, Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa, Kool DJ Red Alert, Q-Bert, Cut Chemist, DJ Premier, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, DJ Cash Money, DJ Bobbito, and Rich Medina. In addition, he shared bills with world-renowned artists such as The Roots, Erykah Badu, Lupe Fiasco, Wu-Tang Clan, Michael Franti & Spearhead, KRS-One, Lyrics Born, Pharcyde, and the list goes on. Ren is a professional party rocker who can put it down among the best of them with a vast arsenal of music to drop on any dancefloor, ranging from hip hop, reggae & soul to electro, house and breaks. Ren has appeared on numerous publications, such as the XLR8R, 7x7, SF Weekly, SF Magazine and SF Examiner, to name a few. He has graced the Bay Area with his non-stop seemless sets, making appearances at San Francisco's premiere venues such as Temple, Mighty, Mezzanine, Ruby Skye, 1015, The Independent, among a slew of other venues. In addition, he has appeared at Michael Franti & Spearhead's annual "9-11 Power to the Peaceful Festival", Outside Lands Music Festival, Myx.tv and KPFA's Hardknock Radio.
