Event Description

Artists for Charity and Party with a Purpose SF invite the Bay Area community to the 2nd annual Party With a Purpose benefit to support the work of the Artists for Charity Children’s Home. Artists for Charity has willingly accepted the responsibility of raising HIV positive orphans who are ineligible for any other NGO program due to age, health status, and past physical or sexual abuse. The AFC Children’s Home, located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is home for 16 children and provides for all the children’s personal needs and school and medical costs.

The 2nd Annual Party with a Purpose will be held on September 17th at 111 Minna Gallery. The event opens at 5pm with a silent auction. Auction items will range from items donated by local Bay Area restaurants, theaters, artists and designers to artwork created by the children of the Home. Live entertainment by Los Angeles acoustic duo Cherri Mob and DJ Sonny Phono. Appetizers will be provided.

Party with us afterward with DJ Fitsum, who’s mix of Hip Hop, Reggae, R&B, Soca, Clibso, Zuck, and Habesha has gotten the dance floor moving through out California, Denver, Chicago, New York, Boston Philadelphia, Washington DC and Dallas. Then get down with Bay Area’s own Hot Pocket, consisting of the rhythms sections and lead vocals of Bayonics. Hot Pocket is sure to get the crowd hopping, covering classic hip hop, soul, and funk ranging from Snoop Dog, to James Brown, to Luther Vandross. Finally, DJs Keep ‘Em Running and Dion Decibels will keep the party moving all night long.

Go to www.partywithapurposesf.org for more information.

$10 suggested donation, no one turned away for lack of funds. All proceeds directly benefit the Artists for Charity Children's Home.

Prentice Grant: From Vauxhall to Legacy — The Rise of an Independent Hip-Hop Force

The first time Prentice Grant realized music could change his life, he was just a kid in Vauxhall, New Jersey, staring at the TV. Two kids not much older than him were on the screen — backwards clothes, fearless energy, commanding the world. It was Kris Kross performing “Jump.”And in that moment, something clicked. It wasn’t just the beat.It wasn’t just the crowd. It was the power. From that day forward, Prentice didn’t just listen to hip-hop — he became it.He sharpened his pen studying legends.…See More
