Event Description

AK1200, Dara, Dieselboy and MC Messinian are back in action, rolling out the ‘Planet of the Drums’ tour 2008! POTD8 will mark their ninth consecutive year touring, which is unprecedented in electronic dance music. ‘Planet of the Drums’ was conceived with the intention of bringing their sound to the forefront of the dance industry. Up until this time, with no successful tours to promote the music, DnB DJ's were not given equal recognition in comparison to other DJs in the US dance community. This was all changed single handedly by the efforts of ‘Planet of the Drums.’ The 2007 performance at Mighty was called by many attendees “the best dance music show of 2007 of any kind”. 2008 will be more of the same.

Dieselboy is the proud owner HUMAN IMPRINT, one of the most prestigious drum and bass labels in North America. His other accolades include releasing THE 6IXTH SESSION (the best selling drum and bass mix cd), winning the 1998 Global DJ Mix Awards with LTJ Bukem, charting the first dnb single on Billboard’s dance chart, touring with the likes of David Bowie, Moby and Tiesto and playing in over 40 countries across 6 continents. AK1200 is the longest running DnB DJ in the USA, and was the first to give exposure to hundreds of UK based DJ's and producers. To date AK has sold over 500,000 units combined worldwide, and is one of the most well known names in the United States for dance music. He has consistently been included in the Top 100 DJ's for each year in the states. Dara’s discography includes 2 critically acclaimed full length artist albums, 8 DJ mix CDs, as well as numerous singles and remixes for artists such as Freq Nasty, Afrika Bambaata and Keoki. He is also responsible for the nation's first & largest drum ‘n bass record store, Breakbeat Science, in NYC. The launch of the second annual ‘Planet of the Drums’ tour saw MC J-Messinian become a member of the POTD crew (Dieselboy, AK 1200, and Dara). When not touring with POTD, he can be seen touring around the world with each of the superstar DJs individually

Welcoming these giants of the D&B world are the local heroes who have kept the genre alive. Compression is the city’s longest running and best known drum and bass institution, and Dj’s Aye~n, Mal and Ivry are the pillars on which it stands. LowPro Audio has spent the past few years merging the worlds of live drum and bass, dubstep, grime and live musicianship to create unique musical experiences. A main room showdown between Compression’s 2Cents and LowPro’s James Christopher will include vocalists Audio Angel, Many Vibes and the Colonel MC. LowPro artist Sleepyhead and The Fringe Arts Collective Djs MoPo, Absurge, Tim Dietz and Dave Ward will provide an eclectic funk contrast to the D&B bonanza.
