Only 8% of Beatport’s users say they’re open to playing AI-generated music in a set. That number, straight from Beatport’s own survey of its user base, is the real reason the platform announced on August 12 that it’s blocking fully AI-generated tracks from ever reaching its store.

The timing isn’t an accident. It comes one day after Spotify said it would start slapping suspect artist profiles with an “AI Persona” badge starting in mid-September, and it lands in a year where platforms have stopped just talking about AI music and started actually restricting it. Bandcamp banned wholly AI-made tracks back in January. Tidal cut off royalties on fully AI-generated songs in July. Beatport is doing something a little different than either. No tagging after the fact, no quietly withholding a check. It stops flagged tracks before they’re ever uploaded.

TL;DR: Beatport now blocks tracks that are fully or mostly made by AI at the point of upload, using detection tools built with fraud-specialist Beatdapp. AI-assisted tracks are still allowed but get tagged. The move follows survey data showing DJs strongly prefer human-made tracks.
