"After one note of his voice, you know it's him." - DJ Lethal (Limp Bizkit) Rock (aka Rockmon the Rockness Monstah) is the New York rapper of the underground hip-hop duo Heltah Skeltah and former member of the group, Boot Camp Clik. Rock first gained notice in Heltah Skeltah with his partner Ruck. An underground buzz over their 1996 debut, Nocturnal, resulted in a deal with Priority Records, which released their second album, Magnum Force, in 1998. In the first week of
Nocturnal being on the shelves, it sold more than 40,000 copies. In between those two albums, in 1998, Rock released another album with the whole Boot Camp Clik named "For The People." Rock has made appearances on Redman's platinum-selling "Muddy Waters" album, Rockafella's WWF album, Frankie Cutlass' "Politics and Bullsh*t, the gold-selling "Rhyme and Reason" and on numerous Tony Touch mixed tapes and in three underground hip hop movies, "Hip Hop Witch", "All Or Nothing" and "Boriqua Bond." His most distinguishable attribute is his deep booming voice. "Besides his style and how authentic it is, his voice just puts it in there," Lethal said while hanging out with Rock in a recording studio Thursday night. "After one note of his voice, you know it's him." Rock's upcoming solo album, Planet Rock, is expected to feature guest vocals by Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst, Outlawz, Method Man and Redman, while producers will include Lethal, Rockwilder (Method Man & Redman), Shok (DMX, Rah Digga) and Scott Storch (Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre). Timbaland (Jay-Z) and the Neptunes (Ol' Dirty Bastard, Kelis) are being sought as well. Rock has now started a family of his own called the Brazy Bunch and presently has his own record labal named
Bed Rock Entertainment. Still part of Heltah Skeltah, Rock is doing his own thing and back out on a different level keeping it real. He recently released a mixed tape, "The Best of Rock - The AWOL Soldier", which has the streets rocking and waiting for more.
