Dubphonics is a forward thinking hip-hop trio based in Detroit, Michigan, consisting of MC's Meel Tikit(Jamile Abdulla) Subverse(Jerome Joyce) and DJ Claymore(Bill Kennedy). Formed near the turn of the current century Dubphonics has been making noise in the world hip-hop community since day one. The two MC's bring diverse skill sets to the table, and their strengths play off each other with incredible effect. Meel Tikit's lush songwriting and heartfelt delivery draws listeners in and leaves a lasting impression. Subverse's improvisational freestyles and irrepressible live energy have made him a fan favorite and rap battle champion twenty times over. Combine this with dynamic production and precise backing of the ever-able turntablist DJ Claymore and the "two turntables and a mic" style of boom bap hip-hop takes a positive turn toward the stratosphere. "Being from Detroit, we knew we had to out work the competition, but stay with making music the entire world can understand and feel." Meel Tikit said in an interview with Detroit 's Motormouth Magazine. "We make hip-hop to honor our influences," chimed in Subverse "But we never loose sight of the innovative spirit that drove our idols to such creative peaks." Dubphonics crew reaches beyond its three members, with very talented producers/engineers. Cyzer Sozet(Jared Gozzlin) who has worked with Method Man, Eminem, RZA, Scott Scorch, Tantric, Dina Ray (Motown Records) as well as done tracks on the new D12 album. Not to stop there, Eric Hoegemeyer, former drummer of Lava/Atlantic artist Uncle Kracker and Sony Records' Charm Farm, have been involved in making the Dubphonics LP. A talented team of open minded people, Eric and Jared bring great vibes and immense technical know-how to the studio. Industry veteran Joe Battle who most recently was a hired gun for Bad Boy Records and Johnny Wright Entertainment handles management duties. Dubphonics have played across the U.S. and Canada . Show monies and the return from selling CD's and T-shirt's have allowed us to constantly play better rooms at higher returns as well as fund their own studio sessions. West coast venue's include San Francisco 's Justice League and Slims, Blake's in Berkley , and spots all over the bay area such as Last Day Saloon, Bottom of the Hill, Storyville, Café Du Nord, Elephunk and True-Skool. They have also shared bills or stage time with major artists such as: DJ Premier & Bumpy Knuckles a.k.a. Freddy Foxx, Black Eyed Peas, Kool Keith, Lil' Wayne, Souls of Mischief, Living Legends, DJ Craze, Zion I, RZA/Killa Army, Shock G & Money B of Digital Underground, DJ Swamp, Medusa, and Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest just to name a few.
