Dropping his first music video off of his upcoming solo album, Planet (March 2), Tech N9ne’s “Don’t Nobody Want None” has him paying homage to that early ’80s era when break-dancing and DJing were at the forefront of Hip-Hop. Not only is he going back to Hip-Hop’s foundation, but he’s also revisiting his own roots, as a dancer, is how he first got into Hip-Hop before he became a celebrated MC. The song is a departure from much of Tech N9ne’s previous work, as he raps over a reworked version of Hashim’s 1983 hit “Al-Naafiysh (The Soul)” to capture that early ’80s sound. Sharp listeners may also recognize the sample from the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, in the scene where a young Dr. Dre is practicing DJing at home.
With DJ Spinstyles on the turntables, and several breakers getting down in the music video, Tech N9ne made sure not to forget the element of Hip-Hop he’s known to be a master of – MCing. He brings his modern chopper-style of rapping to the 1980’s Electro-Funk jam, spitting competitive lyrics that fit the title, and makes his claim as one of the best rappers of 2018. With the way he continues to diversify his sound and his approach to music, he definitely has a claim to that title.
Always one to keep the party moving, Tech N9ne will be hitting the road and touring across the U.S. this spring.
