Event Description

Wow, we have a FANTASTIC show for you on Thursday, Sept 27th! In addition to the Slam & WIDE-Open-Mic we have a FABULOUS feature, a feature so super talented you'll want to crowd in close in hope that some of it will rub off on to you! We're thrilled to bring you the soulful song stylings of the Bay Area's own Noñameko.

Noñameko is a Bay Area original. Her passion is weaving the old with the new and she uses her voice as a bridge to join together the very best of jazz and hip-hop with a touch of soul. She is a highly skilled and classically trained vocalist who knows how to bring out the beauty in every song to which she applies her amazing soprano/ contralto. Noñameko understands how to maximize the emotional impact of a composition by maintaining the utmost control over her instrument and resisting the temptation to "over-sing." She croons, belts, warbles and scats with a horn-like improv-ability and can be heard covering any and everything from Jazz and Blues to Opera and Gospel to Funk and Hip-Hop. A member of a euphonious family Noni has been a student and lover of music since before her birth. She considers herself a "jazz vocalist who pushes her musical diversity to the limit". Noñameko is a true student of music citing influences from as diverse sources as the folk music of Ghana, northern Indian classical vocal music and, of course, HIP HOP. She has toured Europe, singing everywhere from the Corinthian mountains of Austria to the Vatican; she has toured the United States with such artists as The Headhunters, and Arrested Development and she's thrilled to be back home, in Oakland.

We'll start the show off as usual with our patented WIDE-Open-Mic in which we welcome artists of all types and stripes to the stage to share their talents with our crowd. We've had comics, MCs, singers, storytellers, clowns, puppeteers and, of course, poets. Looking to get on the mic? Just get there a little early and sign-up; you'll also get a discount at the door if you do - so do.
