Event Description

THE DOUBLE DOWN FEATURING SPECIAL GUEST TRACKADEMICKS THURSDAY NOVEMBER 17th.

The Double Down is a monthly party featuring the finest in Bay Area live music & DJ's, third Thursdays at John Colins. The November edition of the party features a live performance by Bay Area musical artist Trackademicks alongside resident DJ's E Da Boss & Kung Fu Chris.

TRACKADEMICKS:

"Aaaw yes, this kid is hella fresh..." ¨Trackademicks is a buzzing MC and producer from the Bay (Alameda, CA to be exact) who's spent the past few years crafting standout tracks for everyone from Mistah FAB to J*Davey to Kid Sister to Phonte of Little Brother. The stylistic diversity of those in-demand productions is magnified tenfold in his own music - Track takes the energy of hyphy and the bump of classic Bay rap, mixes it with the smoothed-out sonics of vintage pop and r&b, and ties it all together with a crazy ear for melodies and a willingness to experiment, creating a new, wholly original Cali sound in the process, as evidenced on his Fool’s Gold debut “Enjoy What You Do” and popular [Re]mixtape series.

"Trackademicks is honestly one of my favourite young producers around right now. He's one hit record away from being on the level of at least a Polow Da Don. I love the way his keys provide this warm bed of beautiful 80's R&B synth but the drums stay so f***ing banging. The Janelle Monae remix he did was one of my favourite cuts from last year." - Mark Ronson

Tickets available at the door: $5 before 10:30pm $7 after

E Da Boss:
DJ E Da Boss has been in the game since 1987, when as a youngster in Newark, NJ, he tried to emulate local hero DJ Cheese on a Realistic mixer with no crossfader. A few years later, a friend introduced him to legendary DJ and producer Mark the 45 King, whose mixtapes inspired E to get into digging for old records and breakbeats. From there, E worked on expanding his record collection and his DJ skills. In 1994, E started making his own beats on a delay rack with a looping feature and a Casio SK-1 sampler. Two years later, he upgraded to the ASR-10 he uses today and has been banging out heavyweight beats ever since.Besides his commitment to production, E has also toured the world as the performance DJ for Blackalicious, Gift of Gab, Lateef the Truthspeaker, Jennifer Johns, and Bicasso of Living Legends. Having been fed a steady diet of E's beat tapes, Gift of Gab said he would make a point of working with E, and later on, after Gab called him from South Africa, E officially became Blackalicious' tour DJ and through that, also spun for Gift of Gab's solo tour, Lateef the Truthspeaker's solo tour, and some dates for Lyrics Born. He has shared the stage with such luminaries as KRS-One, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliot, The Roots, Chaka Kahn, and many more.

Kung Fu Chris:
Kung Fu Chris is a San Francisco based DJ/ musician noted for spinning a wide variety of styles of music. Over the years KFC has presented such notable parties as Fo' Sho! Fridays, Sabado Soul, Paint The White House Black, Full-Step Wednesdays & Trouble Shooting, as well events co-hosted with DJ MAKossa including the legendary Funky Rewind series which highlighted some of the most well respected and interesting DJ's in Bay Area & beyond.

Prentice Grant: From Vauxhall to Legacy — The Rise of an Independent Hip-Hop Force

The first time Prentice Grant realized music could change his life, he was just a kid in Vauxhall, New Jersey, staring at the TV.
