ABOUT THE COUP
The incendiary new album by the The Coup is called Sorry To Bother You. The record is the latest work by the visionary band fronted by renowned vocalist-writer and activist Boots Riley and accompanied by a cadre of talented and versatile musicians.

The songs on Sorry To Bother You merge danceable beats, punk urgency and the astute social commentary of hip-hop to craft a refreshingly unique sound that draws from the past but never sounds anything but futuristic.

For their latest Riley and company teamed with co-producer Damion Gallegos at Chub Studio in Oakland. The album features guest appearances by Anti-Flag, Das Racist, Killer Mike, Japanther, Jolie Holland, Vernon Reid, and Joe Henry among others. Sorry To Bother You was recently included in Spin Magazine’s recent “25 Fall Albums You Gotta Hear” list, where they described it as “a hip-hop broadside at its core, but also integrates aggro punk guitar and danceable, '80-influenced beats.”

"Boots Riley is a national treasure." – Stereogum

"With the perfect blend of party music and political rhymes, the Oakland hip-hop group's sixth album has taken over our speakers." - Entertainment Weekly

“This is our new sh*t.” - Okayplayer

ABOUT LYRICS BORN
Lyrics Born has gone about the creation of his latest effort, As U Were, in a less-than-conventional manner. One defining characteristic of his sound thus far has been that it can be described as unequivocally fun, and this remains true of As U Were. However, LB does routinely peel back the gregarious exterior to reveal a contemplative everyman, and it’s times like this that his true artistry is apparent. “It’s at the point in my career where I’ve been through a lot, fun and not so fun. I think I’m dealing with a lot issues that are more mature than the last few albums, from abandonment to betrayal to incredible joy”. He voices these sentiments prominently on the lead single “Lies x 3”, a driving, heartfelt plead for truth.
