m by the The Coup is called Sorry To Bother You. The record is the lat
est work by the visionary band fronted by renowned vocalist-writer and
activist Boots Riley and accompanied by a cadre of talented and versa
tile musicians. The songs on Sorry To Bother You merge danceable beat
s, punk urgency and the astute social commentary of hip-hop to craft a
refreshingly unique sound that draws from the past but never sounds a
nything but futuristic. For their latest Riley and company teamed wit
h co-producer Damion Gallegos at Chub Studio in Oakland. The album fea
tures guest appearances by Anti-Flag, Das Racist, Killer Mike, Japanth
er, Jolie Holland, Vernon Reid, and Joe Henry among others. Sorry To B
other You was recently included in Spin Magazine’s recent “25 Fall
Albums You Gotta Hear” list, where they described it as “a hip-ho
p broadside at its core, but also integrates aggro punk guitar and dan
ceable, '80-influenced beats.” \"Boots Riley is a national treasure
.\" – Stereogum \"With the perfect blend of party music and politic
al rhymes, the Oakland hip-hop group's sixth album has taken over our
speakers.\" - Entertainment Weekly “This is our new sh*t.” - Okay
player \n\n\nABOUT LYRICS BORN Lyrics Born has gone about the creation
of his latest effort, As U Were, in a less-than-conventional manner.
One defining characteristic of his sound thus far has been that it can
be described as unequivocally fun, and this remains true of As U Were
. However, LB does routinely peel back the gregarious exterior to reve
al a contemplative everyman, and it’s times like this that his true
artistry is apparent. “It’s at the point in my career where I’ve
been through a lot, fun and not so fun. I think I’m dealing with a
lot issues that are more mature than the last few albums, from abandon
ment to betrayal to incredible joy”. He voices these sentiments prom
inently on the lead single “Lies x 3”, a driving, heartfelt plead
for truth. \n\nFor more information visit https://trueskool.com/event
