Event Description

Angela Davis in Conversation with Danielle Drake

Friday, April 13 at 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM PDT
Herbst Theatre
401 Van Ness Ave Ste 110, San Francisco, California 94102

Through her activism and scholarship over many decades, Angela Davis has been deeply involved in movements for social justice around the world. Her work has always emphasized the importance of building communities around the struggle for economic, racial, and gender justice.

Her efforts have been shaped by her extraordinary past, starting with her childhood in a turbulent and racially segregated Birmingham, Alabama. Later, a member of the Black Panther Party, and a prominent communist leader, Angela has never shied away from confronting the harsh realities of injustice.

Her support of three Soledad Prison inmates who she felt were being treated unfairly, led to accusations of her involvement in their attempted escape and, ultimately, her arrest in the early seventies. She spent eighteen months in jail and on trial, after being placed on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List. Since her acquittal, she has fought against a range of social problems associated with incarceration and the generalized criminalization of those communities that are most affected by poverty and racial discrimination.

Join Angela Davis for an insightful conversation about her life and work as an activist educator, from the Civil Rights Movement, to fighting against the prison industrial complex.

Meet Angela Davis! For just $50, add a Pre-Show Reception ticket to your order. Meet Professor Davis from 5:45 - 6:45 pm in the intimate CIIS gallery, located at 1453 Mission Street. Attendance very limited.
