ABOUT ESG AND THE SHOW:

Hailing from the spiritual birthplace of modern dance music, the South Bronx, ESG (Emerald Sapphire & Gold) was formed by sisters Renee, Valerie, and Marie Scroggins, all of whom handle vocals and percussion, and friends David Miles (guitar) and Leroy Glover (bass). After permanently adding non-relative Tito Libran to the lineup as a conga player (some male members came and went prior to this), ESG was officially born. The rest is history, still in the making.

Their reach is infinite: they've been sampled by LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Gang Starr and literally hundreds of other hip hop and dance artists. Their epic tunes 'Moody,' 'UFO' and 'Dance' were played by Larry Levan at Paradise Garage and Ron Hardy at the Music Box and are still heard in night clubs everywhere. They originally released music on the revered 99 Records label alongside their New York based peers Liquid Liquid and Konk, and were instrumental in defining the No Wave or Post Punk sound that dominated clubs and radio in the 80's. Their rhythm and bass driven sound still serves as a template for aspiring modern musicians, producers and dj's the world over.

Live, ESG is a force of nature. Their sparse arrangements, heavy percussion and bass work, and mad, dark, fun vocals are tailor made for the club environment. The Scroggins sisters and co. still rock the party and appeal to the same wide cross section of music freaks they have for the last 30 years.

No Way Back is proud and honored to present ESG live in their last ever west coast performance on their final tour, at Mezzanine in San Francisco, Saturday March 3rd 2012.

Partial shooting of a documentary film about ESG and this tour will be going down at the show, so be sure to wave at Mom...See ya there!

-Corey Black (40 Thieves)
