J DILLA TRIBUTE NIGHT
The legendary James Yancey aka Jay Dee/J Dillawas at the forefront as one of the major innovators in Hip Hop throughout his years as a producer and eventually as an emcee. Chances are you're already familiar with his music, but if not it's well worth looking into. This night, February 7th marks what would've been the man's 38th birthday, and Feb. 10th, the 6th anniversary of his passing. Come together with the Bay's hip hop community as we celebrate his musical legacy!
Our guest DJ for the night is Mr. MuddBird of the Resonate Crew. Well known for his eclectic ear, MuddBird is also credited with putting on the first Dilla tribute event in San Francisco (which also served as a fundraiser for Dilla's mom aka Ma Dukes and the release party for the reissue of RUFF DRAFT.) This was the first, last, and ONLY officially-supported Stones Throw event in San Francisco...
