Event Description

Phillipdrummond, Element Lounge and Grindtime West Coast present:
16 BARS MC Competition

MC's go head to head to head spittin their dopest 16 BAR verses for a cash prize and gear. Beats provided by DJ Kevvy Kev (The Drum KZSU 90.1FM Stanford) and hosted by FLO.

This event is ALSO the 3 year anniversary of Beats, Rhymes and Life---the longest ongoing monthly battle (beat battle, mc competition, crew battle, pop-lockin battle, etc.) in the Bay and probably Cali! The event is also a double mixtape release party for Plex Rock of Del Mon Crew, and Animal Planet's mixtape release party. But wait, it's also Phillipdrummond's 28th bday jam, and a canned food drive. Cats are flying in from NYC, Florida, Hawaii and the Mid-West to compete in this battle and the Battle of the Bay III the day before in Oakland so expect some serious talent including two time Scribble Jam champ and World Rap Champion The Saurus. Nocando (scribble jam champ) and Mandess (Critical Madness) will be judging along with the crowd as a third judge.

Admission is $10 with a can of food, $13 w/out. 21+, drink specials all night, 9pm-2am @ Element Lounge, 1028 Geary (bet Van Ness and Polk) in San Francisco

Prentice Grant: From Vauxhall to Legacy — The Rise of an Independent Hip-Hop Force

The first time Prentice Grant realized music could change his life, he was just a kid in Vauxhall, New Jersey, staring at the TV. Two kids not much older than him were on the screen — backwards clothes, fearless energy, commanding the world. It was Kris Kross performing “Jump.”And in that moment, something clicked. It wasn’t just the beat.It wasn’t just the crowd. It was the power. From that day forward, Prentice didn’t just listen to hip-hop — he became it.He sharpened his pen studying legends.…See More
