ABOUT

Tonahope Smythe, known by his artistic name Tonahope, emerges from the reggae-rich soil of Hanover, Jamaica, carrying the spirit of Rastafarianism and the essence of reggae in his veins. Kingston’s streets witnessed his evolution from a talented soccer player at Wolmer’s Boys School to a singer, overcoming skepticism through disciplined vocal training.

Tonahope’s musical odyssey draws inspiration from legends like Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, and Michael Jackson. His relocation to Kendal, Hanover, and subsequent move to the USA deepened his connection to roots reggae. A spiritual vision, featuring Garnett Silk, Bob Marley, and Emperor Haile Selassie, propelled Tonahope to embrace his calling: continuing the reggae legacy.

Now, residing in Virginia Beach and officially known as Tonahope, he not only grows his locks but also grows the roots of reggae. The journey from a soccer field injury to a reggae artist is a testament to his commitment to discipline and the profound impact of Rastafari on his life.

Tonahope’s stage presence has graced audiences alongside reggae giants like Beres Hammond, I Wayne, Jah9, Bushman, The Meditations, and Steel Pulse. The debut album “Judge Not,” released in 2012, marked the beginning of Tonahope’s impactful career. Sharing stages with reggae icons, Tonahope continues to carry the torch, spreading the essence of Rastafari through his uplifting music.
