In this live performance from Robert Glasper's "Glasper Jam" presented by UPROXX at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles on January 23, 2020, special surprise guest Lupe Fiasco freestyles and then performs impromptu versions of "Kick, Push" and "The Coolest" with the assistance of the legend Herbie Hancock, Terrace Martin, Christian Scott, Derrick Hodge, and Chris Dave.
About Glasper's Jam: On Thursday January 23, 2020, LA jazz luminary and hyper-tapped-in hip-hop producer Robert Glasper and his musical friends took over Los Angeles’ Teragram Ballroom for Glasper’s Jam, a live show celebrating the upcoming Grammy Awards and Glasper’s star-studded mixtape, "Fuck Yo Feelings," which was released last fall on Loma Vista. The sold-out show, presented by Uproxx, featured appearances from jazz icon Herbie Hancock, rapper Lupe Fiasco, comedian Affion Crockett, and multi-instrumentalist Terrace Martin.
About the Robert Glasper Experiment: A quartet centered around jazz pianist Robert Glasper, the Robert Glasper Experiment features bassist Derrick Hodge and drummer Chris Dave. They made their debut on one half of Glasper's two-disc "Double Booked" in 2009. The Experiment have also been open to working with vocalists. On their second CD -- and first stand-alone effort -- "Black Radio," they worked with everyone from vocalists Bilal, Ledisi, Erykah Badu, and Lalah Hathaway to rappers Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco, and Shafiq Husayn.
About Lupe Fiasco: Wasalu Muhammad Jaco, better known by his stage name Lupe Fiasco, is a Chicago-born, Grammy award-winning American rapper, record producer, entrepreneur, and community advocate. Rising to fame in 2006, following the success of his debut album, "Food & Liquor," Lupe has released more than four acclaimed studio albums; his latest being "Drogas Wave" released fall 2018. His efforts to propagate conscious material helped solidify him as GQ’s Man of the Year in 2006, and garnered recognition as a Henry Crown Fellow. While musical genius and ingenuity are at the forefront of Lupe’s achievements, the artist extends his innovation to projects that aim to foster creative discourse and opportunities in underprivileged and impoverished communities.
About Herbie Hancock: Herbie Hancock is an American pianist, keyboardist, bandleader, composer and actor. Hancock started his career with Donald Byrd. He shortly thereafter joined the Miles Davis Quintet, where he helped to redefine the role of a jazz rhythm section and was one of the primary architects of the post-bop sound. In the 1970s, Hancock experimented with jazz fusion, funk, and electro styles.
About Terrace Martin: Terrace Martin is an American musician, rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor from Los Angeles, California. He is perhaps best known for producing records for several prominent artists in the music industry, including Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, The Game, Busta Rhymes, Stevie Wonder, Charlie Wilson, Raphael Saadiq and YG among others. Martin is a multi-instrumentalist, whose music production embodies everything from funk and jazz to classical and soul. Martin recently released his sixth studio album "Velvet Portraits" on his newly formed label, Sounds of Crenshaw Records, through Ropeadope Records.
