Dice Raw of The Roots Airs New Mass Incarceration Documentary

Danitha Jones | August 1, 2013 | The Source

melanin saturated doc The Roots’ Dice Raw, continues to campaign for the shouldn’t-haves. Speaking for the masses of melanin-saturated men drowning in the system, Jimmie’s Back, is a sobering reflection of the continued Jim Crow indocterination that is asphyxiating the United States.

Joining forces with AllHipHop.com, Okayplayer.com, and RapGenius.com, Dice Raw shares a candid mass-incarceration documentary. The concept-album and documentary are provoked by Dice’s reaction to Dr. Michelle Alexander’s New York Times best-selling book, “The New Jim Crow.” On August 19th the album will hit the streets.

Startling numbers reinforce the disproportionate amount of Black men enslaved in the current plantation system. According to, The Drug War And Mass Incarceration By The Numbers, nearly half of all prisoners in state prisons are confined for non-violent crimes. The majority is Black prisoners who are incarcerated for drug crimes.

Black children are 10 times more likely to be arrested for drug crimes than White ones –even though White kids are more likely to abuse drugs. One in every 15 Black males, 18 & older, is incarcerated in the US vs. 1 in 106 White males.
