True Skool is an organization dedicated to preserving the elements of Funk and Hip-Hop. Since its conception, four years ago, True Skool has supported independent groups by providing a venue and forum for artistic expression. Likewise, True Skool has consistently offered low-cost concerts in order to ensure access to the public. True Skool has paid tribute to the pioneers of Hip-Hop by featuring classic musicians, such as Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa and The Last Poets, as well as underground artists, such as Aceyalone, Medusa, and J-Live. The combined efforts of True Skool and local artists have served to further uplift and educate the Bay Area audience. True Skool has been featured in several magazines such as XLR8R (Oct. 2002) and has proudly won Best of the Bay in the SF Bay Guardian two years in a row (2001 & 2002). True Skool’s dynamic website, http://www.true-skool.org, and email newsletter allows you to access hip hop history lessons, artist bios, new releases, independent news, and other hip hop resources.
