The Blessed Madonna delves into one of dance music's most influential mixtape series with its creator, Mark Farina.
Beginning in the early 90s, the Mushroom Jazz tapes combined elements of downtempo, hip hop, jazz and R&B, and spawned with it a whole subculture in rave music. It came to provide the perfect antidote for the aggressive DnB and post-acid techno of the American rave scene.
Not only did the sound become an alternative offering to ravers in nightclubs throughout America, but also found a home within the tape decks of indie-hipsters, even hippies!
Join Marea and Mark as they talk through the tape's history and legacy, and of course spin some of their favourite tracks from the vast archive of volumes.
