Swizz Beatz is slated to release his second ever solo studio album and first in 11 years this November. Poison, which is co-executive produced by J. Cole, features a star-studded feature list, including Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Young Thug, Pusha T, Jim Jones, Jadakiss, Styles P and Lil Wayne, among others. In honor of Swizz’s forthcoming 10-track project, he stopped by Power 106 Los Angeles’ The Morning Show to chop it up.
While he did discuss Poison, perhaps most interesting was Swizz Beatz’ naming of his Top 5 all-time producers, and the brought out the heavy-hitters. The Bronx, New York did not include himself in the list, but curated a mix of East and West Coast greats, along with a couple board-masters he’s worked in close contact with over his career.
“Top five producers? That’s hard, but easy,” he replied when asked. “I’m a say Preemo, Dre, Pharrell, Timb, and I’ma throw Alchemist in there. And that’s in no particular order,” he said, using nicknames for DJ Premier and Timbaland. That’s just me just vibing with the Top 5.” When asked whether or not he would put himself within that prestigious group, Swizz had an interesting answer. “[No] because there’s a lot of different Top 5’s, ’cause you know we can go to [Mike WiLL Made-It], we can go in different tiers and it’s just like a lot when you’re talking about Top 5.”
