Golden State Warrior Stephen Curry and singer John Legend will join President Barack Obama in Oakland later this month for an Obama Foundation initiative. The event which will kick off February 18-20 also known as MBK Rising! (My Brother’s Keeper) and was billed by the foundation as the “first national convening.”
According to the website, MBK is a two-day convening that will bring together in Oakland the growing network of MBK communities, elected officials, leaders and young men of color and the organizations working hard to help them achieve their dreams. MBK Rising! will launch with a Day of Service and Community Dinner on Monday, February 18, followed by two full days of mainstream sessions, breakout sessions, breakout sessions, and evening events.
Also on hand for MBK Rising! will be Karol Mason, Shaka Senghor, Rev. Wanda Johnson who is the mother of Oscar Grant and Edgar Villanueva. The mission of MBK is to inspire, empower, and connect people to change their world. This event will mark the fifth anniversary and start of the program which was started after the killing of Trayvon Martin.
