Tonight (August 8th) should be more celebratory than bittersweet, more excited anticipation than melancholy appreciation. See, on this day in 2015 the hip hop world lost a leading figure in its underground scene, as Sean Price would never wake up from his sleep. His passing would not only leave a void in the rap world that has yet to be filled, but it also left the status of his anticipated fourth album, Imperius Rex, in limbo.
Fortunately, and to the delight of his fans, his longtime label Duck Down Records that his announced that his long-in-the-works album will finally see the light of day, albeit on the two-year anniversary of his death. But, Imperius Rex isn’t to be used to mourn Sean; no, it should be listened to with ecstatic joy, because one of the greatest emcees of a generation — with a remarkable knack for rejuvenating his career over and over again — has finally released his much-anticipated project.
