Anyone who has attended a music festival in recent memory knows it isn’t cheap, but according to a new study, San Francisco’s signature music fest Outside Lands may be the priciest in the nation.
The report does not exactly come from the most scientific of sources, but Casino.org crunched some numbers to find that an average day at Outside Lands costs $301.70. That figure includes a single-day ticket ($226.20), water (free), a beer ($12.50) a burger ($23) and parking ($40). The second costliest fest, according to Casino.org, is Bonnaroo at $241 for an average day, followed by Electric Daisy Carnival, where a single beer costs a whopping $23.33. Surprisingly, Coachella is in fifth place on the report, costing approximately $219.66 per day — but that’s not accounting for a rental car, gas, or the emotional toll of watching Frank Ocean’s last-minute set changes..
Naturally, the price of an actual day at SF’s signature music festival can vary wildly — especially if you’d like a caviar tasting and your own golf cart chauffeur. To save a couple bucks, it’s possible to bring food into Outside Lands, but most attendees are likely buying at least one meal, as well as several drinks (and maybe something to smoke) at the festival. Biking there or taking a shuttle cuts out parking costs, but those relying on ride-sharing services could end up paying astronomical surge rates, with a 10-minute ride averaging more than $50.
