Many radio stations across the country might get an injection of golden era raps next year. That is because a number of stations in the FM format are looking to add “Classic Hip-Hop,” reports New York Times. According to the numbers there is a big audience wanting to hear older rap tunes. Houston’s “Boom 92” KROI-FM was the first large market station to introduce the format which utilizes rap music from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s. Consequently, Boom’s grab grew, going from 245,000 to 802,000, and saw its Nielsen ratings share boost from from 1.0 to 3.2. The second month’s numbers slipped slightly but the station still pumped in a respectable 781,000 listeners.

Other stations in Dallas and Philadelphia that switched over to “Classic Hip-Hop” also saw an increase in numbers. According the report, because of the uncanny boost many other stations will look to transition as early as next year.

More classic A Tribe Called Quest, Rakim, Tupac, Biggie, LL Cool J etc., on the radio? We’ll take that.
