Kid Capri Releases ‘The Love,’ His First Album in 24 Years

Nearly 25 years after the release of his last full-length offering, Kid Capri has returned with his third studio album, The Love.

The 19-track project arrives on the legendary DJ’s 55th birthday, and features the previously released singles “Slap Key” and “Uptown.” The Love marks Capri’s first LP since his sophomore album Soundtrack to the Streets, which dropped in November 1998, and was highlighted by guest appearances from Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, and several other A-list rappers.

In a new interview with Flaunt, the Bronx native revealed the meaning behind the project’s title.

“My family is the Love: Vina Love, I’m David Love, my moms,” Capri explained. “It’s about the love of what we’re doing and what I’ve been doing, for the love of what I got. Just grateful for everything I’m doing. Overall, that’s what we need around this time right now.”

When asked why he waited nearly 25 years to drop a new album, Capri said, “I decided to do it because I felt like doing it. With me seeing a few other things around that inspired me to do it, but I just felt like it. I felt like making something. Producing the whole thing, writing the whole thing, performing the whole thing. I didn’t ask nobody for no help on it, just doing my thing with it. I’m hoping people like it. It’s something for everybody.”
