Jay Electronica may not be considered a prolific MC in the eyes of many, but he is certainly a versatile one. The New Orleans, Louisiana rapper/producer has a dynamic spectrum of songs in his limited catalog. He makes his first appearance of 2019 on Rosie Lowe’s “The Way,” and it shows some new dimension.
Jay Elect’ assists the Brit-Pop singer on her just-released LP, YU. Right before the close of the love song about a deep and exciting romance, the scarce songwriter provides an all-encompassing verse that shows his Hip-Hop roots, his political side, and those clutch pop culture references that made him such a sensation a decade ago. “Come-a-chameleon, come-a-police / The final war of Armageddon for peace / Four hundred years without a sign of relief / So I hung my home hat on the horns of the beast / No nation, word to Fela / Just me and myself, that’s word to De La / Little miss Rosie, no rings around her / Pocket full of posies, no kings around her / Nothing left to do but get lost in love / Like New Edition, and tie strings around her / She kiss me softly, outside of Harrahs / And BBM me on a ride to Paris / ‘Jay, can you please sing me your Rap song? / And make it strong, I’m so tired of ballads / I’ll Jessica your Roger Rabbit’ / And you can chase me down the isle of marriage / Show me the way, like Glinda Good-Witch / My heart is so tired, like BF Goodrich / I’m jaded by these lullabies / Take a walk on the wild side to see that hood sh*t.” Electronica delivers a nimble verse.
