Paramount's documentary MIXTAPE which features KRS-ONE, Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled, and Jadakiss was released earlier this week (8/1) in celebration of Hip-Hop's 50th anniversary.
Jadakiss and DJ Tony Touch who appear in the documentary recently sat down with CBS Mornings to discuss the mixtape and its impact on Hip-Hop and their careers.
"I wouldn't have a career if it wasn't for the mixtape," Jadakiss explains. "it was hard to be heard on our journey [as independent artists], and when we got signed to Bad Boy Puff had so much going on and so many hits with the label that we were waiting our turn in the incubator. Instead of having so much time on our hands to do nothing, we wanted to be heard and get some music out there so we did mixtapes. That catapulted us up while we waited."
