Beyond expressing love and appreciation for her fans, Janet Jackson isn’t typically one to say too much in between songs at her shows. Small talk isn’t her style, but there’s one thing she said at her Chase Center show on Wednesday that really hit at the heart of a universal feeling.
The crowd roared when projection screens beamed out the music video for “Scream,” the 1995 international hit she recorded with her late brother Michael Jackson. She was in the back having one of many costume changes and let him and her dancers handle it onstage for a moment, along with a recording of Michael singing the line, “I’m tired of injustice, I’m tired of the schemes!”
She came back onstage to sing her first verse of “Scream.” Her voice is in great shape and was typically gentle but powerful during the 90-minute concert, but she really went full throttle on this particular song, belting it out in a way that is markedly different from how she is on the recorded album track.
