Back in August of 2019, George Clinton played what he initially claimed would be his last show with Parliament-Funkadelic.” Even though I feel like I’m just getting started, the reality is the group needs to go ahead and keep it going,” Clinton told Rolling Stone in an interview from the winter before his intended retirement. But it appears a few years off the road was all the respite the funk icon needed after nearly five decades straight of uninterrupted touring.
On March 21st, the group announced the upcoming revival of their One Nation Under a Groove tour, which marked Clinton’s first final outing, will be led by their pioneering frontman and founder. The tour launches at Central Park’s Summerstage in New York City on June 15th before trekking west through Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Ft. Worth, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Englewood, for an additional 16 dates.
Clinton’s prior victory lap was celebrated with the release of Parliament’s 2018 album, Medicaid Fraud Dogg, on which Scarface served as the lone guest feature. No word on whether new music will accompany his return to the stage, but here’s hoping Clinton’s long-awaited solo project for Brainfeeder is still somewhere in the cards.
