Three 6 Mafia alum Gangsta Boo has died. Several sources, including TMZ, report that the 43-year-old rapper born Lola Mitchell was found dead on Sunday (January 1). The Memphis, Tennessee native has been mourned by Three 6’s DJ Paul, Ty Dolla $ign, and others. No cause of death has been made public at this time.
Gangsta Boo worked with Three 6 Mafia during the group’s formative years. She appeared on 1995’s Mystic Stylez as a teenager, staying in the fold through the collective’s major label run in the early 2000s. Boo appeared on important 666 songs such as “Late Night Tip,” “Who Run It,” and “Hit A Muthaf*cka.” Albums from this period include 2000’s platinum-certified When the Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1, and 1997’s gold Chapter 2: World Domination.
DJ Paul and Juicy J eventually gave Gangsta Boo the runway for a prominent solo career, beginning with 1998’s Enquiring Minds at Relativity Records. That contained the hit money-making anthem “Where Dem Dollas At.” As part of the Hypnotize Minds, Boo worked with Three 6, Project Pat, La Chat, Prophet Posse, and others. In 2013, Gangsta Boo was part of the reunion-minded lineup of Da Mafia 6ix involving DJ Paul, Crunchy Black, Lord Infamous, and Koopsta.
