D.I.T.C.’s O.C. Recreates The Year In Hip-Hop That Was 1988 In His New Video

BY PAUL MEARA • OCTOBER 9, 2018

1988 was a special year in Hip-Hop. EPMD, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Big Daddy Kane, N.W.A., Eric B. & Rakim, Boogie Down Productions, Ice-T, Slick Rick, Jungle Brothers, and Biz Markie all released landmark albums. O.C. was listening, as was P.F. Cuttin. Both artists made their critical impact in the years that followed, but kept the ’88 spirit alive.

That spirit comes to life in O.C. & P.F.’s first video from their collaborative album. Taking it back to 1988, the production half of Blahzay Blahzay (perhaps best known for their 1995 hit “Danger”) along with the Diggin’ In The Crates MC created a brand new song heads might confuse with something out of the late 1980s. Titled “88,” DJ PF Cuttin’s sample-heavy and synth-laden beat is the perfect backdrop for O.C.’s reminiscing raps about the early days of his come-up. “Ah man, this takes me back to seeing them moves by dancers on the floor,” he raps on the song. “Rockin’ loose Benetton, fly girls look similar to Salt-N-Pepa in the ‘Tramp’ video.”

The Beat’s unique sound has allowed it to endure for nearly four decades and appeal to fans, young and old, all over the world. Over…See More
