A week ago, Lupe Fiasco announced the HOUSE EP with Kaelin Ellis. On Friday, the full five-track project is available for streaming.
The project came together by a chance connection over social media. In May, Kaelin Ellis posted a video making beats at his home studio during quarantine. Over 2,000 people liked the tweet. “My fav one I’ve done so far,” he wrote. “Had this bass line come to me in a dream once.”
Someone replied to the tweet, tagging Lupe. “Get this to @LupeFiasco somehow,” he wrote. Less than 12 hours later, Lupe obliged. He exported audio from the video into Garage Band and recorded a freestyle over it. The full version of that track, “LF95,” is now the closing track of the HOUSE EP. The two finished the EP while locked down on quarantine.
“Stop leaving yall beats just laying around,” Lupe tweeted. “It ain’t safe out here.”
