Bilal recorded the album in one weekend in a 54-hour-long session.
Over the course of one weekend in early August, Bilal joined HighBreedMusic for a creative experiment. For 54 total hours, Bilal, producer Tariq Khan, and 30 other musicians remotely recorded and composed a three-song EP from locations all over the country. After a month, the project is now available for download on Bandcamp.
“Bilal masterfully guided the experience,” the group said in a statement. “As musical director, producer, and vocalist, showcasing the fascinating progression of an initial idea to a finished album.”
Notable names like Erykah Badu and Robert Glasper showed up, in addition to Chuck Treece of Bad Brains, Tone Whitfield, Khemist, Ray Angry, Nick Hakim, Cory Henry, Marcus Strickland, Keyon Harrold, Madison McFerrin, Simon Mavin of Hiatus Kaiyote and more.
The artists reminisced and recorded while watching visual artists Angelbert Metoyer and Shanina Dionna make the artwork for the EP.
