Earlier this week, The Roots and fellow Soulquarians member Bilal reunited for “It Ain’t Fair.” The song is a focal point of the upcoming film Detroit, and while Black Thought raps, the sound and message applies to the real life events of 1967 as well as 2017.
The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native Hip-Hop band stayed in the news this week. IndieWire reports that Questlove and Black Thought will join forces with Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney for a new AMC series. AMC Visionaries: Rap Yearbook adapts the critically-acclaimed book by Hip-Hop journalist/author Shea Serrano into a documentary-style series.
“Ahmir ‘Questlove’ Thompson and Tariq ‘Black Thought’ Trotter will bring fans a unique look at the stories behind Hip-Hop’s global influence. We’re all in and excited for these leaders to share their vision,” said AMC President Charlie Collier. Reportedly, each episode focuses on the creation of one key song from Rap’s discography. A guest MC and key contributors are also involved in each episode.
