DETAILS: Sunset Promotions & Mighty bring a big dose of Bay Area funk to Miami for their Sunday night “Antidote”. With tech funk, breaks, glitch, nufunk and latin breaks, the event will serve as an “Antidote” to all of the (godblessed) 4x4 saturation entailed in the WMC week. Headlining the evening will be the Bay Area’s legendary tech-hop hero Bassnectar, and UK breakbeat legends the Freestylers. Add to the mix some nufunk and midtempo from DC hero Fort Knox Five, Dutch duo Kraak & Smaak, Miami’s own DJ Le Spam, and SF Funk freak Motion Potion and it adds up to a lineup unique for WMC and unforgettable for the lucky few who get tickets.

For the last decade, Lorin Ashton has helped develop the North American underground dance music scene. From touring full time as a DJ (an average of 125 shows per year), to his production & remixing under the alias Bassnectar, he has amassed a dedicated fan base, crossing over from hip hop to electronica to breakbeat to ragga/dub to the jam band scene and the greater Burningman Scene. In 2007, Bassnectar was voted the #1 DJ in the Bay Area in the prestigious “Nitevibe Dreamteam” poll (www.nitevibe.com). In 2008 he moved from clubs to theatres and stadiums, playing to 20,000 people on New Years and following the Beastie Boys at the recent Langerado Festival.

The Freestylers have helped define the funky breaks sound and style with a near decade of groundbreaking releases. With a style that incorporates a large dose of funk, rock, reggae and hip hop into their filthy, crunchy productions, the Freestylers make dance music that crosses all boundaries. In the past few years Fort Knox Five has done for midtempo what the Freestylers did for uptempo, bringing in healthy doses of funky, roots music to unify the dancefloor. Kraak & Smaak has broken some ground of their own, using live instrumentation and vocalists to create a sound that’s part disco, funk, and house. They have quickly become one of the most sought-after remixers in Europe. DJ Le Spam is a Miami legend for his years of work with his future-Cuban band The Spam All Stars. He throws down juicy sets of funk, latin and Miami bass. Motion Potion has long been one of the US’s most avid funk pushers, a propensity that has seen him booked on massive rock festivals like Bonnaroo, Rothbury and Vegoose. AnTenNae has quietly seen his unique “Acid Crunk” style of downtempo glitch and dubstep thrust him into bigger and bigger venues in the past year.
