it is with much pleasure we return to the bay area with the world's most celebrated music lover GILLES PETERSON to realize FOUR YEARS of this madness we call theLIFT + coming direct from Tokyo welcome TOSHIO MATSUURA of the legendary UNITED FUTURE ORGANIZATION + JEREMY SOLE (KCRW) & WISEACRE (the303 NYC)

For all things GILLES PETERSON check in at:
http://www.gillespetersonworldwide.com/

When all is said and done, whichever role Gilles is performing – DJ, broadcaster, producer, compiler, label boss or plain old record collector – the music is always the bottom line.

Starting off life as a club DJ, Gilles continues to spin regularly around the world. As for the radio, his new 3-hour Saturday show on BBC Radio 6 Music has seen him take his unique musical mix to a new audience & where luminaries like Thom Yorke, Erykah Badu, Toro y Moi drop in; whilst his syndicated Worldwide radio show spreads his musical gospel globally. From Sun-Ra to Herbie Hancock, James Blake, Theo Parrish to Flying Lotus, Nina Simone to Laura Mvula – if it swings in the right places, it’s in!

From Acid Jazz to Talkin’ Loud and now Brownswood, Gilles’s work as A&R, producer; remixer and as worldwide compilations only intensifies. His love affair with Cuba and its subcultures has manifested itself in 5 albums as “Havana Cultura”. The latest of these excursions – ‘Mala in Cuba’ – sent tremors through the electronic underground.

Look for more amazing Brownswood release like Zara McFarlane, Anushka and DIggs Dukes !

about TOSHIO MATSUURA / U.F.O
http://toshiomatsuura.com/
https://soundcloud.com/toshiomatsuura

In 1990 Toshio co-founded the mighty UNITED FUTURE ORGANIZATION (U.F.O) in Tokyo (signed to GILLES' Talkin' Loud label) which quickly established the beginning of a serious jazz groove Japanese club culture along the same lines as the legendary GILLES PETERSON in the UK with Dingwalls and the acid-jazz movement.

Over 12 years U.F.O released 5 amazing full albums worldwide, and gained a global reputation ! Their now classic dancefloor tunes, such as 'I love My Baby, My Baby Loves Jazz', 'Loud Minority', 'Insomnie' and 'United Future Airlines' are still staples in many a top DJ's crate !

After 2002 Toshio left U.F.O to pursue his own solo and remix projects and to DJ at the world's top clubs and festivals. His remixes include UFO, of course, plus James Brown to Earth Wind & Fire, Incognito, Astor Piazzola and Gotan Project, while also creating a compilation series and consulting for major fashion brands. Toshio is one of Japan's top music ambassadors to this day !
