Friday June 5, 2009 marks the return of True Skool’s FRESH: New Music From Emerging Artists, a showcase of up and coming Hip Hop Artists at the Elbo Room, SF. In association with Inhouse Talent and Hip Hop Congress, The Dope Emporium Tour Edition kicks off the series’ renewal with a nation-spanning lineup featuring One Be Lo, Keelay & Zaire, D Labrie, Mykill Miers, The Knox Family, Toni Hill, and Mic Crenshaw with DJs Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist, Franky Fresh, Nikka T. The showcase will be hosted by Hip Hop Congress’ Shamako Noble and Rahman Jamaal and will be preceded by an open mic.

As a constant supporter of hip hop culture, local artists and independent music, True Skool has become a foundation in Bay Area Hip Hop. Founded in 1999 by Ren Salgado, aka Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist, True Skool believes it is important to know where hip-hop comes from and the connection to other genres of music. The website/on-line magazine (www.true-skool.org) is a tribute to the preservation of hip-hop and funk. With local event listings, artist biographies, politics, music, internet radio, a vast social network, and music history, the website is a holistic source of information about the Bay Area hip-hop scene and its influences.
