“Jazzy Jeff” Townes was born in West Philadelphia ina very musical household and developed a love of music at an early age. Jeff was just 10 years old when he started spinning records at parties using his family’s basement as a training ground for his expert mixing. Soon after, he began doing shows on the block party/ballroom circuit in West Philadelphia. It was through these shows that he quickly built a reputation, which had him spinning all over his hometown. Jeff rolled with many crews and emcees around Philly but it was 1985 when he met Will Smith on the house party circuit. Jeff’s regular MC was away so Will stepped to the mic and the chemistry was instant. DJ JAZZY JEFF AND THE FRESH PRINCE were born and the rest is history. Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince released 5 albums in 7 years, sold 14 million records together, and won 2 Grammy and 3 American Music Awards.

Soon after, Jeff began pursuing solo projects and production work for superstar artists including Michael Jackson, Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, Dave Hollister, City High, Floetry, and Lil Kim. In 2004 Jazzy Jeff released his first official mix CD, “Hip Hop Forever II” for BBE. The album showcased Jeff’s trademark mixing skills and many underground and overlooked hip-hop classics. In 2005 Jeff continued his 20-year collaboration with Will Smith working on Will’s fourth solo release “Lost & Found.” The album features production and scratches from Jazzy Jeff. Jeff & Will have also been back performing together again at various shows and premieres. Jeff also began working on his second solo album, “The Return of the Magnificent” available now in stores and online, featuring collaborations with Method Man, Big Daddy Kane, De La Soul, and Rhymefest. In the last few years Jazzy Jeff has collaborated on with DJ AM on various occasions along with being one of the primary DJs for Activision’s new DJ Hero game. Jazzy Jeff continues to represent the DJ throughout his records, mix tapes, and live shows performing sold out DJ sets at the hottest clubs in the world.

Shortkut’s musical talent magnetizes audiences of all ages both in his hometown of San Francisco, throughout the United States, and overseas. His 20+ years of DJ experience and membership with three of the world’s most influential DJ collectives allowed him to enhance his skills, expand his musical selection and develop into an inspiring musician that believes in sharing his talent. Shortkut continues to add to his discography through creations in different areas of music production, mix projects and more recently, video mixing. With the addition of the visual element to his DJ sets, Shortkut continues to innovate and lead in progressing the art of DJing.
