DIGABLE PLANETS
Though they were not the first to synthesize jazz and hip-hop, Digable Planets epitomized the laid-back charm of jazz hipsters better than any group before or since. Their 1993 debut, "Reachin' A New Refutation of Time and Space" took us on a mellow ride laced with samples from Sonny Rollins and Curtis Mayfield and offered the essential hit, "Rebirth of a Slick: Cool Like Dat". "Cool Like Dat" topped the charts and can still ignite a party fifteen years later. After earning a Grammy Award for "Best New Group", Digable Planets went onto create their best album to date, "Blowout Comb". Successfully fusing jazz and hip hop, old school and street - Digable Planets eventually hit a roadblock, after creative differences prompted nearly a decade of solo projects and collaborations for the individual members.

The Poor Righteous Teachers are a trio of African American hip hop musicians from Trenton, New Jersey, founded in 1989 (see 1989 in music). Often referred to as PRT by their fans, Poor Righteous Teachers are known as pro-Black conscious hip hop artists who are members of the Nation of Gods and Earths. Wise Intelligent, as the lead MC, is the most visible and well known member of the group. Culture Freedom provides backing vocals and production and Father Shaheed serves as a DJ and producer. The trio released their first album, Holy Intellect, in 1990 (see 1990 in music), spawning their only major radio hit, Rock Dis Funky Joint. This album was followed by Pure Poverty the following year. Their follow-up and most successful release to date has been 1993's Black Business, which drew criticism for alleged homophobia. Their fourth release was The New World Order (1996, see 1996 in music). Wise Intelligent released a solo CD titled Killin' U for Fun in 1995. In July of 2006, Wise Intelligent's indie label, Intelligent Muzik, released a "mix tape" titled "Blessed Be The Poor? - The Un-Mix Tape." In 2007, Wise Intelligent will release a second solo CD titled Wise Intelligent iz...The Talented Timothy Taylor . A Poor Righteous Teachers CD is expected to follow the Wise Intelligent CD.

Killah Priest is a tangential associate of the Wu-Tang Clan. The Brooklyn native made his first recorded appearances on records by such Wu side projects and solo albums as the Gravediggaz, Ol' Dirty Bastard's Return to the 36 Chambers, and, most importantly, Genius/GZA's seminal Liquid Swords. His contributions became legendary and paved the way for the release of his acclaimed debut album, Heavy Mental, in the spring of 1998. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Bedford-Stuyvesant and Brownsville, Killah Priest became infatuated with hip-hop as a child, listening to old-school and new school acts like Eric B. & Rakim alike. He also was influenced by local rappers, like Genius and Onyx's Suave, who would often play local parties. Killah Priest began working on his rhyming and eventually earned a considerable reputation in Brooklyn, but instead of pursuing his musical career further, he took a sabbatical in order to educate himself, primarily about religion and history.
