Event Description

***RESCHEDULED FROM 3/27********

Come join us for the second round of our new monthly party where we celebrate the distinct regional cultures of hip hop! Each month we will be featuring different guest DJs who will be selecting a different city or region and exploring the artists and music that have made that city's hip hop unique: from The A to Da Bay, Houstatlantavegas, NYC, The Chi, East Coast, West Coast, you get the picture.

February we honored the birthplace of hip hop, New York and it WENT OFF! This month we bring it home with a night of ALL Bay Area hip hop brought to you by two of The Bay's finest DJs.

First, the internationally renowned DJ Platurn -- voted "Oakland's Best DJ" by The East Bay Express and winner of Scion's mix competition with fellow Oakland Fader DJ Spair. Dj Platurn has been holding it down in The Bay for years with residencies at Luka's Tap Room's "Flashback Fridays" and "The 45 Sessions" at The Layover. Platurn has shared the stage with such names as Z-Trip, Krs-One, Mixmaster Mike, The Beat Junkies, DJ Premier, Slick Rick, Maseo (De La Soul), ZionI, Jazzy Jay, Quest-Love(The Roots), M.F. Doom, A-Trak, Afrika Bambaata, Pete Rock, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and now brings his unique style to Area Codes.

Next, Bay staple DJ Doc Fu will be joining us. Doc Fu is EA Sports' DJ and member of the Red Wine DJs, which won 7x7's "Best DJ Collective" award. Doc Fu recently held residency at Vessel's massive hip hop monthly "Crush" and also plays every Thursday night at Farmer Brown.

Resident DJ White Mike of The Projects will also be holding it down with his favorites from The Bay.

Entry is free before 10:30.
$10 after.
